Look at this rock from Menotomy Rocks Park carefully! Notice its interesting features, these come from weathering! That green vegetation (lichen and moss) create organic acids that eat away at rocks! The crack in the rock is most likely caused by uprooting from the plant growing in rocks cracks or from ice wedging when water freezes and expands in the cracks! These types of weathering and many more continue to reshape what the Boston Basin area looks like.
